The Universal Serial Bus Mixed Full- and High-Speed Bus Topologies |
The Universal Serial BusThis chapter briefly describes the Universal Serial Bus and many of the terms used throughout this documentation. A complete specification of the USB is available in document Universal Serial Bus Specification Revision 2.0 and Universal Serial Bus Specification Revision 3.2, freely available from http://www.usb.org. The Universal Serial Bus (USB) is an industry-standard extension to the PC architecture for PC peripherals. The USB is a cable bus that supports data exchange between a host computer and a wide range of simultaneously accessible peripherals. The attached peripherals share USB bandwidth through a host-scheduled, token-based protocol. The bus allows peripherals to be attached, configured, used, and detached while the host and other peripherals are in operation. The USB does not support USB devices (peripherals) to communicate among each other. Only the host can initiate device -> host or host -> device transactions.
